The Body Shop Mineral & Ginger Warming Mask | Skincare
Does anyone else find that flying and travelling makes their skin break out? Like, I could be having the best skin-day but as soon as I get on that plane it all goes to hell. Thankfully now that I am back in Canada, I can give it some TLC with the Body Shop Warming Mineral & Ginger Face Mask.
I purchased this a couple months ago when I went on a little Body Shop haul. It would have been $20 CAD, but I picked it up when they were having a deal for buy 3 get 2 free (or something like that.)
This face mask is ideal for all skin types. It warms up when applied to the skin to help purify and detoxify pores – just what you need after a long day at the airport! The Kaolin clay is what helps to draw out the impurities in your skin.
Ingredients (In Order)
PEG-8. Polyethylene Glycol-8 used to enhance skin penetration. Could be contaminated with 1,4 dioxane which is a known carcinogen – trusted brands ensure purity of their product from 1,4 dioxane.
Zeolite. Negatively charged mineral that helps to draw out impurities from your skin.
Glycerin. Can be derived from natural resources (animals or plants) or man made. It helps to moisturize your skin.
Kaolin. A natural mineral that is used to absorb excess oils/ dirt.
Methyl Gluceth-20. Used as an ingredient to provide moisture to your skin. Can be derived from Corn Starch.
PEG-220. Polyethylene Glycol-220 used to provide moisture into the skin, helps to penetrate pores.
Algae. Provides hydration, can be used for anti-aging products.
Methylparaben & Propylparaben. Used as a preservative from the Paraben family, could be contaminated and possibly be a carcinogen.
Tocopheryl Acetate. Vitamin E, used as a skin-conditioner and antioxidant.
Curcuma Zedoaria Root Oil. Turmeric Root helps to moisturize skin and provide fragrance for the face mask.
Cinnamomum Zeylanicum (Cinnamon) Leaf Oil. Used for fragrance.
Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Oil. Helps to purify skin, provide moisture and fragrance.
Zinc Oxide. Typically used for sunscreen, but can help to reduce pore size and used as a “bulking agent.”
Please see EWG Skin Deep for more in-depth information about these ingredients.
I do have to say that I like this product – in fact, for my first giveaway it was one of the products that I sent out. I enjoy that you can feel the warming sensation when you put it on, but it doesn’t last. After a few seconds applied on the skin the warming sensation does go away.
You let it sit on the skin for about five minutes so that it has time to absorb, but not dry out. It does seem to sink into your pores and you can see the texture of your skin once it does. It’s extremely easy to rinse off – though I definitely do recommend keeping your eyes closed for the entire time… just in case.
When I need my skin to have a deep cleansing, this is the product I reach for. I wouldn’t use it more than twice a week because it really does strip your skin of the natural oils.
Would I repurchase?
Although I do like it, I think that $20 does seem a bit high (mind you, I’m not even halfway through after three months of use.) Some of the ingredients in the warming mineral & ginger face mask just didn’t make me jump for joy. I want to be more cautious of the products that I’m putting on my skin. Therefore, no. I do not think I would repurchase – but because I want a more “green/ natural” product without the parabens.
